02 Januari 2010 | Noorwegen, Kristiansand

The last days of 2009 we spent pleasantly in our cabin and having company of Cor’s sister, husband and kids. The week in the cabin was all about quietness, lots of snow, and Christmas. Each night or day, 10cm or more of snow fell. The other cabins around us were empty, so we had the area all to ourselves. What a joy; putting the first steps in the new snow, making your own path with your cross country skis or sleigh.
After Christmas our visitors arrived. They were very lucky. They were heaps of snow in Kristiansand and it was beautiful weather: freezing cold, blue skies, and a bright sun, Norway displaying her winter beauty. Wherever you looked it was a pretty picture and inviting you to be outside. The five days were quickly filled: sleighing was number one, the faster the better dodging trees, walking in the woods, finding treasures, making camp fires, the zoo, and a tourist walk through town, romantically in the snow. The late afternoons and evening were spent in the warmth of the fire place, drinking hot chocolate, playing games or enjoying a drink. And, we did celebrate Lars’ birthday. He is 7 now! Time flies.
New Year ’s Eve we enjoyed self made ‘oliebollen’ and champagne. Also Norway has lots of fireworks, although it starts well before midnight. The full moon, the lunar eclipse, clear sky in a snowy landscape and the company will make us remember the start of 2010.
This morning, they left for Holland. We had planned to go to our cabin. Yet thinking of heating a wooden cabin from -20, made us decide to stay home and enjoy the winter here.
